Company 55 and mutual aid companies (E60, E53-1, Truck 50, Tanker 60, Tanker 53, Rescue 905 (RIT), EMS, and SRPD were dispatched to Brenneman Road in Pequea Township for a reported house fire. Assistant 50 arrived quickly, reporting heavy smoke from the attic area of a one story dwelling. Engine 60, already on the street returning from an event, was first arriving. E 60 advanced a line into the first floor of the structure and began attempts to access the seat of the fire. E 55-1 requested the working fire dispatch upon arrival, bringing engines from 50 and 66, and an additional tanker. E 55-1 crew entered to assist with suppression as Truck 50 vented the roof, near the A/D corner, and handled extension on a side porch area. The crew of E 55-1 quickly realized the need to access the attic area in order to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire, as crews pulling ceilings below the fire were having difficulty making large openings, due to some unconventional construction techniques. The majority of the fire was quickly knocked after access into the upper area was gained by 55. Extensive overhaul and salvage operations continued, with all hands working. Cause of the fire was determined to be a faulty chimney.
